Employee Spotlight: Tom DeBord

At i3 Commerce Technology, we pride ourselves on having the best employees in the industry, and this quarter, we want to feature our CEO, Tom DeBord.

As CEO, Tom oversees the day-to-day operations at i3 Commerce Technology. He ensures that our best-in-class customer service and products are delivered to all merchants. Tom takes on other roles as well, serving as controller and handling human resources.

Tom began his career in the payment processing and information technology industry at Fifth Third Bank before transitioning to the sales side of the organization. Then in 2005, Tom co-founded i3 Commerce Technology.

We also had a Q&A session with Tom. Here’s what he had to say.

Q. What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day?

A. “It’s easy to get motivated to come to work when you have a job that you love. Our team at i3 Commerce Technology is a pleasure to be around. Since co-founding the company, I have felt that it is my job to have a company that puts its partners and customers first while providing a good work environment for our employees. I am motivated every day to make sure that happens.”

Q. What is your biggest accomplishment since co-founding i3 Commerce Technology in 2005?

A. “As we hit the 15-year mark at i3 Commerce Technology, I think my biggest accomplishment is sticking to the goal that we first established at the beginning – which was to never grow so fast that we couldn’t support our customers in a way that I am proud of. I always want to be able to look our customers in the eye and know that we have charged them a fair price and provided exceptional customer service.”

Q. What is on your wish list for the next 10 years with i3 Commerce Technology?

A. “I have a hard time looking too far into the future as our industry is constantly changing. I work every day to make sure that we stay on top of the changes so that our customers don’t have to look elsewhere for a new product or service.”

Q. What does true leadership mean to you?

A. “I am not sure how I would define true leadership, but I know that the result of good leadership is having a team that wants to go the extra mile as opposed to having to be told to go the extra mile.”

Q. What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A. “I wanted to be a major league baseball player. I fell very short of that dream.”
